Tim Burton es un director que representa en sus trabajos una visión individual oscura y sórdida pero entrañable. En ellas hallamos criaturas a las que la tristeza, la frustración y la melancolía las persiguen, magnificados en la soledad que ellos defienden y mantienen a costa de la incomprensión de los que les rodean. Pero esta naturaleza de crear personajes tan particulares tiene su origen en su niñez, en la que desde sus primeros años ya evocaban su afición por la creación de estos mediante el dibujo, bocetos que perfilaban lo que serían sus futuras creaciones.

El presente libro editado con motivo de la exhibición en el Museo de Arte Moderno (MOMA) de la retrospectiva de la obra pictórica de Tim Burton, nos permitirá apreciar el nivel de sus estilos expresivos y el dominio de las múltiples técnicas de dibujo, así como las primeras representaciones de los personajes que serían los interpretes principales de sus películas.

"Growing up in Burbank, there wasn´t much of a museum culture. I never visited one until I was a teenager (unless you count the Hollywood Wax Museum). I occupied my time going to see monster movies, watching television, drawing, and playing in the local cemetery. Later, when I did start frequenting museums, I was struck by how similar the vibe to the cemetery. Not in a morbid way, but both have a quiet, introspective, yet electrifying atmosphere. Exitement, mystery, discovery, life, and death all in one place. So all these years later, to have this exhibiton, tobe showing things- some of which weren´t meant to ever seen, or are just pieces of the larger picture- is very especial to me"
